Ramesh Periyathambi

Ramesh Periyathambi is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff and Senior Director at eBay, based in San Jose, California, where he leads company-wide initiatives in Generative AI, developer productivity, and continuous delivery pipeline reliability. An innovative engineer with over 14 years at eBay, Ramesh has driven some of the platform's most impactful technical advances — including scaling real-time machine learning inference to over 1 billion item page requests per day using reinforcement learning, XGBoost, and Logistic Regression models. He designed and implemented eBay's major distributed CDN and server-side caching solution to significantly improve site speed, and also collaborated with the Google Brain team to optimize neural network algorithms based on TensorFlow 2.0 open-source code. Ramesh is currently spearheading eBay's use of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) to boost developer productivity across the organization. A prolific inventor, he holds multiple patents in machine learning, caching, performance enhancement, and e-commerce, and has been recognized as a speaker at leading AI conferences including Ai4 and ODSC. Marshall has been involved with the eBay marketplace since launching the very first eBay API integration in 2001 and continues to enhance and expand that functionality over the following quarter century. Over the years he has been involved with the launch of variation listings, automotive fitment, advertising campaigns, and many others, helping eBay's development and definition of the API interfaces and functionality and leading to be a speaker at several of the previous eBay developer conference events. In addition to eBay processing and systems Marshall has also been involved with additional marketplace integrations, international expansion and localization, database design, architecture, and performance tuning, and internal tool development to streamline and automate efforts.
